A three-day weekend is the perfect excuse to get out of town! As much as we love San Francisco and San Diego (they are the best places to study English!) it is also great to escape the cities and explore some of the other parts of California. The following are some suggestions for our English students to plan the perfect Memorial Day weekend.

It is Memorial Day “tradition” to spend the weekend outside, typically with water sports or in nature. So make sure that wherever you go, you bring your bathing suit!

Memorial Day Weekend Getaways

Camping

Summer is just around the corner, but during Memorial Day weekend, the weather temperatures are perfect. If you are studying English in San Francisco, check out our article on Hiking in San Francisco: many of the hiking trails are part of larger campgrounds. Other suggestions include a weekend in beautiful Bodega Bay.

Water Sports

kayaking

Have you ever thought of Canoeing the Russian River? It is a great opportunity to see some of the more secluded parts of the beautiful Napa Valley! Students at CISL San Diego might be interested in Kayaking in La Jolla. Bright fish, leopard sharks, and rays are often spotted, and the tour companies allow access to the caves that are along the cliffs. Mission Bay also offers kayak rentals and the opportunity to paddle-board or sail.

Vegas, Baby!

Whether you are studying English in San Diego or San Francisco, Vegas is just a short flight away! Check out our article on Las Vegas for some insider tips, and before you go, make sure to brush up on your slang for money and gambling terms with this grammar post. CISL San Diego students might like to rent a car and road trip to Vegas: if so, check out our post on the various routes to take in order to enjoy some sightseeing along the way.

Lake Tahoe

tahoe

Camping sites, hotels, casinos, and the most beautiful lake . . . Tahoe has it all! CISL San Francisco students can enjoy a weekend in Lake Tahoe with just a two-hour drive. Refer to our post on a Tahoe road trip for more information.

Palm Springs

Many San Diegans consider Palm Springs to be the best place for a weekend getaway, and we agree! The beautiful oasis in the desert is a great place to relax, eat great food, and sip on a drink by the poolside. The city also has great shopping and plenty of nightclubs. Click here for more info!

We would like to wish all of our students a happy, fun, and safe Memorial Day weekend!
