My booking involved four weeks studying in Converse International School of Languages and eight weeks Volunteer English program. Also, I am living for those three months in a home stay.

I spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve in San Francisco. I didn’t wait for white Christmas and not for summer. Here I expected mild temperatures between 35 ° and 55 ° Fahrenheit (ca. 0 ° to 15 ° Celsius) perfect for shopping and sightseeing. I also met up with my classmates and fellow students to take, for example, dinner in restaurants. To fill out the program, CISL offers variety of offerings.

I spent Christmas with my family. This was a priceless experience for me to celebrate Christmas outside of my family in another culture. I could find out differences and similarities between American and my German culture. My wonderful host family is of Filipino origin. They have four grown children and eight grandchildren aged two to eighteen years. The whole family comes together to Christmas, on 12/25. There I could share with all family members everything possible and I could enjoy Christmas in a different family.

New Years Eve I spent with my classmates, my fellow students and my new friends. You meet up with them at one of your host family, residence, apartment or in public restaurants, bars and clubs. At 11 pm you should go to the “Embarcadero” because at 00:00 clock there starts big fireworks. Perhaps I’ve never even seen so many people in one place and certainly I’ve never seen so many different cultures in one place.
Then the party was into the early morning hours.

Hey,

My name is Julia, and I am staying in San Francisco for three months. At home in Berlin, Germany, I study English in order to be a High School teacher. Obviously, my English has to be very good and I am happy that I found the homepage of Converse by browsing the Web some months ago. For years, it had been my dream to spend some time in San Francisco because I had heard that it is the most liberal city in the U.S.

So I applied for an internship at Converse San Francisco and learned that I had to take a language course as well. At first, I was a little bit reluctant because I had had some bad experiences with other language schools. However, my skepticism was soon proven wrong. I was placed in the right course level, had an excellent teacher, and never had the feeling that I wasn’t being challenged. Furthermore, this was also a good way to meet new people.

Now I am finished with my language course and working at Converse part-time as an intern. I am learning a lot about the American workplace, and the staff is very friendly and constantly helps me improve my English skills. And I still have got enough time to explore the city, to participate in the great free-time activities and to have a lot of fun.

Almost all parks are free, but that doesn’t make them worth a visit. However, San Francisco’s Dolores Park could probably charge a small fee and people would still come. Why? Because it is the communal gathering point for many of the Mission Districts young artists, musicians, bloggers, hipsters, and punks. Actually, just about everyone from the neighborhood comes here to hang out. When the weather is nice people have cookouts and drink. You can play tennis or basketball. There is an upper area where men like to sunbath, fondly called Dolores Beach. Plus, if you get bored of being in the park you are only steps away from the heart of the Mission where there are tons of small boutique stores, cheap bars and restaurants, and plenty of style to go around.

I wish to make a complaint.

I wish to see the manager.

You can also use ‘wish’ with a noun to ‘offer good wishes’.

I wish you all the best in your new job.

We wish you a merry Christmas.

Notice that when you want to offer good wishes using a verb, you must use ‘hope ‘ and not ‘wish’.

We wish you the best of luck.

We hope you have the best of luck.

I hope you have a safe and pleasant journey.

However, the main use of ‘wish’ is to say that we would like things to be different from what they are, that we have regrets about the present situation.

I wish I was rich.

He wishes he lived in Paris.

They wish they’d chosen a different leader.

I wish I hadn’t told him.

Notice that the verb tense which follows ‘I wish’ is ‘more in the past’ than the tense corresponding to its meaning.

I’m overweight. I wish I was slimmer.

I didn’t go to the cinema. I wish I had gone.

I’ve eaten too much. I wish I hadn’t eaten so much.

I’m going to see her later. I wish I wasn’t.

I was wearing jeans. I wish I hadn’t been wearing jeans.

I can’t go to the party. I wish I could go.

I couldn’t do all the questions in the exam. I wish I could have done them all.

In the case of ‘will’ , where ‘will’ means ‘show willingness’ we use ‘would’.

You keep interrupting me. I wish you wouldn’t do that.

Where ‘will’ means a future event, we cannot use ‘wish’ and must use ‘hope’.

There’s a strike tomorrow. I hope some buses will still be running.

I hope everything will be fine in your new job.

In more formal English, we use the subjunctive form ‘were’ and not ‘was’ after ‘wish’.

I wish I were taller.

I wish it were Saturday today.

Then she has an idea. She goes into the shop and asks if they will

The jeweller says that for a deposit of $50 he will hold the bracelet
for her for up to four weeks.

The woman replies, “My husband will come in and pay for the bracelet
as soon as he does something unforgivable. Probably this weekend!”
