Is it any surprise that the “City by the Bay” hosts the largest oyster festival on the West Coast? We are not surprised!

We encourage San Francisco students who love festivals, live music, and great local food to check out SF’s Oysterfest 2012. This is the 13th year that the event has taken place, and approximately 300,000 people come out for the festivities! Wow! Here is a fun fact: since the event started 13 years ago, over half a million oysters have been eaten at this event. That’s a lot of shells!

The event will take place in Sharon Meadow on Saturday, June 30th, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This year’s festival includes live music from several bands: Young the Giant, Minus the Bear, Manchester Orchestra and Little Hurricane.

Even if you are not a big fan of oysters, you will probably find something that appeals to you: there will also be a variety of foods from many San Francisco restaurants. All of the foods offered have an emphasis on providing healthy, local, and sustainable products. In addition, there will be many drinks to choose from, including wine, beer, mixed drinks, and a new Happy Hour where all alcoholic beverages will be $1 off until 2 pm.

The event will also have many fun activities, including the “Shuck and Swallow” competition, cooking demos, and an Oyster History Exhibition.

Admission to Oysterfest is $35. To purchase tickets, visit:www.snagtickets.com/53654/13th_Annual_San_Francisco_Oysterfest. For more information about the event, visit Facebook.
