A student reflection on developing professional English confidence through a Career English placement in San Diego.
In early 2024, I completed a Career English placement with a San Diego event-management business. I supported social media and event-coordination work and helped with several community events in the Gaslamp District.
The placement also introduced me to practical business tasks, including research, written communication, ticketing support, social-media management, and preparing event summaries.
Working with a local team helped me become more confident using English in professional settings. I contributed ideas, took part in meetings, and saw how clear communication supports day-to-day work.
The experience gave me a closer view of workplace culture in the United States and helped me connect my academic and professional background with real responsibilities.
Before the placement, CISL supported my preparation with résumé and cover-letter feedback and a mock interview. That preparation helped me approach the interview more calmly and communicate my experience clearly.
