Today is March 14 (3-14). Do you know what that means? It is Pi day!

Americans jokingly celebrate Pi day (3-14) as “Pie” day. Suddenly, the date that looks like a mathematical number (3.141592654 . . . ) becomes a day to eat delicious dessert!

One of San Diego’s newest additions has quickly become a local favorite. No surprise: like owner Karen from Extraordinary Desserts, owner/chef Keegan Gerhard has also been featured on The Food Network. In addition, Gerhard was named one of the nation’s top 10 pastry chefs of 2002 and 2004 by both Chocolatier and Pastry Art & Design magazines. What can you expect at D Bar? Anything from the Big Apple Crisp ($9): a Granny Smith apples crisp  with brown sugar oat crumble, buttermilk ice cream, and warm cider shooter with chantilly; or a Latin-inspired Ch Ch Ch Churros! ($9): cinnamon sugar churros with chocolate dipping sauce and homemade vanilla ice cream.

Located in North Park, Heaven Sent is a local favorite: a birthday cake from this bakery ensures a great birthday! Heaven Sent’s dessert menu rotates a few delicious items, like Blueberry Cheesecake, German Chocolate Cake, and the Infused Pear Spiced Tart; other tasty items like the Strawberry Fraise, 18k Raspberry Cheesecake, and Red Velvet cupcakes remain on the daily menu year-round.
