Summertime means hours at the beach, barbecues, and lots of suntanning and surfing, but it also means something not so beach-related: fairs! The San Diego County Fair will take place from June 8 to July 4, 2012 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and it a must-see event for students.

This year’s fair motto is “Out of This World” and the fair will feature exhibits that explore man’s fascination with the universe. Of course, the fair will also have everything a traditional fair offers: rides, animals, lots of fair food, live music, and exhibits from local artists and vendors.

The fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County and the sixth largest fair in the United States. Each year, more than 1.4 million people walk through the gates and enjoy all that the fair has to offer. That’s more than the entire population of San Diego!

The fair will run for 24 days, but will be closed every Monday except July 2nd. The gates open at 11 am Tuesdays through Fridays and at 10 am on Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday, July 2. The cost is $13 for adults.
